Harriers Head To Gateshead For More Indoor Action

The indoor season continued on Thursday evening when some of the North East’s best young athletes travelled to Gateshead for the third meeting of their Indoor Series. Four of our junior Harriers swapped the usual cold outdoor training session for the warmth of the indoor competition!

Under13 Girls 60m It was great to see Tori Buckley competing indoors again. This was only the second time for her so she was really keen to improve on her first performance here in December…..and she did just that! In the 60m she ran like the wind, crossing the line in 6th place with a new PB of 9.54s! Great job, Tori, well done!
Under 15 Girls 60m Sprint maestro, Darcey Garbutt was back in action again in the 60m. She ran an excellent race, seeing off athletes from Gateshead Harriers and Middlesbrough Mandale as she won her heat and was the fastest Under 15 Girl on the night. She matched her PB of 8.14s, so an impressive start to her 2019 campaign. Well done Darcey!

Under 13 Girls Shot Tori is still relatively new to the shot, and has only competed a few times. But she’s always keen to learn and has bags of enthusiasm for her sport, so we’re sure she’ll do amazingly well. Her best throw tonight was 5.96m, a little short of her PB which we know she was a bit disappointedwith. But don’t worry, Tori, sometimes it just doesn’t go your way. Next time we’re sure you’ll smash it! ☺

Under15 Girls Shot Back again for the third time in this series was Lily Thompson. Now in her first year at Under 15 and throwing the heavier 3kg shot, she was up against some tough competition tonight. But as always, Lily gave it her all, finishing in 3rd place with a best throw of 8.93m. No PB this time but a great effort nonetheless. Well done Lily!

Under 17 Girls Shot It was a family affair once again for our throwing experts as Rosie Thompson was also competing. She was on good form tonight, but like Lily, was just a little short of her PB, finishing in 2nd place with a best throw of 9.80m. Great job, Rosie, we look forward to seeing you both smashing those PB’s again soon!
Under 15 Triple Jump It was great to see Darcey taking on the triple jump once again. She’s been getting ever closer to cracking the 10m mark, and tonight she did it! A tremendous effort resulting in an excellent jump of 10.22m and a new PB. She even beat the Under 15 boy by over a metre! Nice one, Darcey, well done
