The Blyth Sportshall Athletics Series came to an exciting conclusion last weekend, with two of our juniors flying the flag for Darlington Harriers. Hugo Douglas-Reeves and Daniel I’Anson were back for more running, jumping and throwing action in what was the fourth and final meeting of this popular series.
Hugo certainly finished in style by winning all 5 of the boys Year 5 events, equalling his own series all time record in the Standing Long Jump and Sprint. With a grand total of 523 points, he won the Year 5 boys series outright; a massive 74 points clear of the 2nd place athlete. His points total was the highest overall average points score across all the ages for boys and girls (school Years 3 to 8) in this series and the highest average total achieved in the history of the competition! Wow! What makes this even more impressive is that he missed the first meeting in the series, where some of his counterparts had competed in all four!
Daniel put in a great effort today to come 3rd in the endurance run and standing long jump and came 7th overall across the series with 265 points – a fantastic achievement as he’d only competed in two out of the four meetings.
Between them, the boys managed to put Darlington Harriers 9th place in the club rankings, out of 12 participating clubs. A tremendous achievement from just two athletes! Amazing stuff, boys, you’ve done yourselves and the club proud. Well done
