16 Harriers headed to New Marske earlier this evening for the Autumn Coast Road 5K. Conditions were very windy with gusts up to 44mph and what must have seemed like a sandstorm hitting the runners head on as they made their way up the coast road.
Despite the poor conditions, John Clifford was first across the line in 17:44 beating several sub 16 minute runners as his superior strength battled the conditions better than those who on paper would be expected to be ahead. Wes Tarn was another who had an excellent run as he showed his mental strength to finish 4th in 17:53 ahead of some very good local competitors.
Many runners on the night were a couple of minutes slower than they would normally expect to achieve in standard race conditions, with only 163 runners on the evening. Well done all.
