Three of our Junior Girls travelled to the coast last weekend for one of the final Track and Field meetings of this season. Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde Athletics Club hosted an open medal meeting which was mostly attended by clubs from the North West, but Kate Williams, along with Rosie & Lily Thompson were flying the flag for the North East.
Under15 Girls Kate was up to her old tricks again on the track with a couple of excellent performances. In the 100m she finished 2nd in the fastest of 2 heats in a time of 13.4s. She was a little disappointed with the time but a nice silver medal made up for it! In the 200m she was just pipped at the post again to take her second silver of the day. Again, not her fastest time of the year with 27.6s but to go home with two silver medals while she’s still a year one U15 is a fabulous result. So well done Kate, great job!
Under15 Girls. Lily had a busy day taking on three events, all throws of course; the shot putt, the discus and the hammer. In the shot she certainly showed her strength, leaving the opposition for dust, including four second year U15’s in the process. Her best was an excellent 9.85m, taking 1st place and beating her nearest rival by 1.74m! She was on top form in the discus as well taking her second gold of the day with a magnificent throw of 24.81m. This smashed her previous PB and was over 6m more than today’s 2nd place! Finally, in the hammer, Lily gave it her all trying to make it three out of three! But it wasn’t to be; still great effort though and a solid throw of 24.8m to take 3rd place. A tremendous all round performance, well done Lily!
Under 17 Girls. Time for Rosie to step up to the mark with the same three disciplines; shot, discus and hammer. First up the shot and a fantastic start to the day – a very welcome PB of 10.36m to make her the clear winner and another medal for the collection! Next up the discus and it was a close call, but with a best of 25.52m Rosie took 2nd place. Finally, the hammer, and another display of top notch throwing skills! She dominated this event to take 1st place and her second gold of the day, winning by over 4m! Very impressive, well done Rosie!
A great effort from all three girls today, putting the North East on the map! Well done to all ☺
