Five of our juniors represented the club at the final meeting of this year’s North East Youth Indoor Series; Hugo Douglas Reeves and Dan I’Anson for the Year 6 boys, and Thomas Hill, Jessica Sweet and Isabelle Wright for the Year 7s.
After some fantastic performances from all, Hugo took the series win by quite some distance with 55 points, with his nearest rival totalling 42 points. He won all of his three events (140m in 21.86, Hurdles in 11.45 and Long Jump 4.2m) and achieved PB’s in 140m and Long Jump to break his previous series records – he now holds an impressive 3 series records in all, including the hurdles from the last meet!
It was the first outing of the series for Dan, who finished 6th overall – 3rd in the 140m – 23.61, 4th in the Long Jump – 3.51 and 4th in the 60m in 9.53.
It was also a first meet for Thomas Hill, coming 6th in the 60m in 9.74, 2nd in the High Jump with 1.23m, and 5th in the Long Jump with 3.57, putting him 10th overall in the series.
For the Year 7 girls, Isabelle Wright finished 2nd in the 140m – 22.30 (after competing in a cheer-leading competition beforehand!) to take 7th place overall, and Jessica Sweet finished 9th overall (5th in Long Jump with 4.05, 4th in 60m with 8.97, and 3rd in the 140m in 22.43).
Overall our Junior Harriers, including Oscar Fluen from Meet 1, came 5th overall out of 19 clubs.
