NEHL Sherman Cup

Some of our Junior Harriers just couldn’t wait to burn off those Christmas calories with one of the first cross country competitions of the New Year.

The annual event, hosted by the North East Harrier League, was as popular as ever, attracting athletes from all over the region, including six from our junior squad.

Here’s how they got on…..

Under 13 Boys

Alex Boyer started 2020 where he ended 2019 with another outstanding performance. He took charge of the race from the off and proved yet again what a quality athlete he is. He added another 1st place to his growing list of victories, crossing the line in a time of 11:34.

Impressive stuff, Alex, well done!

Next up was Hugo Douglas-Reeves. Although officially, he’s still an Under 11, Hugo upped his game today and decided to enter the Under 13 race.

He put in a magnificent effort against the older boys finishing in 16th place out of the 61 taking part. An excellent time too of 13:20, showing he really has a great future ahead of him.

Great work, Hugo, well done

Under 13 Girls

We also had two girls running for the Under 13’s.

Zara Jones has already shown what a class act she is with a string of impressive results to her name already this season. Today she looked as strong as ever and produced another outstanding performance, taking an excellent 2nd place, crossing the line in 12:39.

Top running, Zara, well done.

Also today, it was great to see Sophie Bannister back in action again. She showed huge potential at the Acklam NYSD recently, and produced another serious performance today, finishing 19th out of the 76 taking part, crossing the line in a time of 14:05.

A fantastic effort, Sophie,well done.

Under 15 Girls

We had two of our top Under 15 girls taking part today.

Marissa Boon has really come into her own this season, developing into a real quality athlete with huge potential. She produced another great run today finishing in 4th place, just 15 seconds behind the winner in a time of 12:16.

Great job, Marissa, well done!

And finally, another young athlete who’s in fantastic form, Macy Kelly.

Macy is another one of our juniors who’s impressed us many times this season already, and today she produced another very strong performance. She crossed the line in 15th place out of the 53 competitors, in an excellent time of 13:23.

Great job, Macy, well done!

Overall, an impressive performance from our juniors today, with some outstanding results.

What a tremendous start to 2020; long may it continue! #UTH!
