Track Development – Progress in Pictures
You will have seen that our Track will be unavailable to train on as it undergoes a full refurbishment from March 13th. Work has actually already started with the lighting in and around the athletics track. We expect the work to happen over a 12 week period so should be complete by the end of May, if not sooner!
Race Result
We start this weekend’s race round up at the Grim Up North event, The Beautiful Bluebell Bash at Temple Newsam, Leeds. This challenging course is enjoyed year in year out by both new and regular Grim runners and whilst the course is without doubt challenging it is within the capability of both experienced and new trail runners over each distance. Jen Harrison was the only one of our four ladies running the Half Marathon on the day, completing the course in 2:29:58 to finish 36th from the 56 participants while Emma Arrowsmith was first of the three running the 6.7m event crossing the line in 49th position in 1:29:58 with Donna Hall and Deborah Baldwin-Sykes running together in 1:34:51. Well done ladies, great work. Full results can be found here
On Sunday, we had Hamish Laishley running the Pier 2 Pier, a race which is a great deal of fun which starts on the beach at South Shields Pier and follows a superb scenic route along the cliff paths past Marsden Rock and Souter Lighthouse. It re-joins the beach at Whitburn and finishes at Roker Pier in Sunderland. The race is around 7 miles long and has a bit of everything thrown in. In a field with over 600 runners, Hamish finished 445th in 65:17. Well done Hamish!

Further South we had athletes not only representing the club but also England after qualification was achieved over the last 12 months. Running in the days Half Marathon in warm temperatures was John Clifford who finished the race in 1:16:10 for 37th place overall but 1st V50. Tremendous John.
Pauline Brown was next home finishing 6th FV55 in 1:37:09 with husband Ian finishing in 1:39:04. Phil Doonan followed Ian home for a 1:41:13 finish with partner in crime Catherine Anderson 1:51:05 and 5th FV65. Tremendous from all five of you and a great privilege to wear the England vest John, Pauline and Catherine and sparing a thought for Shirley Gibson who due to a wrist injury was unable to compete for England. At the Great Manchester 10km event Linda Noble was our solo runner on the day, running. Results of the event will be published when available. In the meanwhile enjoy the odd mating ritual of our neighbours Aycliffe RC.
Results have now been released which confirms Chris finishing 2nd with Colin 4th on the night.
