Wednesday evening saw the rescheduled Pitstop events take place at the fantastic croft racing circuit. Sunday saw the annual McTaggart Trot, an event which sees runners placed in teams of three (one 3.7mile runner, a medium paced 7.5mile runner and a longer distance runner covering 11 miles) who have to run through each checkpoint together, losing one runner at each point leaving the longer distance to the finish. Julian Waller’s better half Amanda was in Duathlon action today, this time at the EPIC Fire Fighters ‘2UP’ Duathlon, a unique event which takes place in conjunction with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue. JulianWaller and friend IanTaylor took on the One Foot in the Gargrave Challenge, a 23 mile walk/run from Gargrave Village Hall as part of the Long Distance Walkers Association. Julian finished 12th out of the 140 competitors in 4 hours 31 minutes. I don’t believe it!!!!Well done Julian and Ian.
We had two of our athletes in action at the Cleveland Steelman triathlon today. A 1.3m swim, 56 mile bike effort and a half marathon awaited our two competitors. Julian was first out of the water in 39 minutes dead with Dave following in a second over 44 minutes but he made up two minutes
Another race to take place this weekend was the Osmotherley Fell race, a 5.5 mile race with over 1000 feet ascent, where we had 3 competitors taking part. On Saturday morning four of our Harriers took on the Wensleydale Wander event, an event which has a choice of two circular walks, one a 23 mile challenge and a shorter one of 12 miles, both starting and finishing in Leyburn. All competitors get a hot meal so sounds like an event I’d be interested

Two of our athletes were in action on Sunday morning over in Wensleydale, a 23 mile challenge called the Wensleydale Wedge. John Gray was first to finish in 3hrs 55 in 24th position with Julian Waller taking over Darren Gee’s number through injury finished 80th from the 300 runners, this being Julian’s longest ever run.
Amanda and Julian Waller were again in action this weekend, this time down at Rother Valley, Rotherham, back on home turf for Amanda.This race is a 16 miler over mixed terrain, mainly roads and trail but as yet no results have yet to be released so more on this one next week.
There was the usual high turnout at this year Brass Monkey, on a course and a day ideal for fast running and personal bests, many club runners weren’t disappointed at the finish line. Darren and Sara Gee along with Julian and Amanda Waller were the solo Harrier team in Sedgefield Harriers Neptune relays. This event is loads of fun, 1.7miles per leg and a good course to run.Our mixed team runners finished 76th from 120 teams on the day. First Darlington Harrier team home too!Well done all.
