She’s Back!!

It’s been a few months now since we’ve seen Kate Williams competing, but on Sunday she travelled down to the Yorkshire town of Cleckheaton to take part in one of the first outdoor events of the season. The Spenborough AC Spring Open is a well attended event which attracts athletes of all age groups from the surrounding area, and for Kate, it wasn’t just the first event of a new season, it was her debutas an Under 15 athlete.
She had hoped to compete in three events; the 100m, 200m and for the first time ever, the 300m. Unfortunately, the scheduling of the races was against her so Kate had to settle for just the 200m and the 300m.

Under15 Girls300m Now that Kate has moved up to Under 15, she quite fancied the challenge of the 300m; a tough event requiring both speed and stamina. Things started off well and she actually lead the race for about 240m, but just tied up for the last 60m. According to Kate only one girl passed her but she was given 3rd place, so she definitely wasn’t happy about that!! Still, a great effort though for her first time out at that distance, with a time of 45.9s and the only Year 1 Under 15 athlete in the race. Well done, Kate

Under 15 Girls 200m Back to more familiar ground for the 200m. Kate was in the first of two heats and had an excellent run. It was a close finish as the girls dipped over the line with Kate in 2nd place, only 0.1s behindthe winnerand 0.2s off her PB!

A very promising start to the season and one we’re sure she’ll build on in the months ahead. Great effort, Kate, well done!
