The club had two Juniors at the NECAA Pentathlon on 21st of September at Jarrow. Our U13 multievent duo, Tori Buckley and Ashton Harrison took to the Track and Field for the last event of the season and gave it their all as per usual for these two enthusiastic young athletes.
As is the norm, the girls event was a huge field of 26 entrants with athletes from all over the country taking part. Tori had a great day, with some brilliant performances across all five events and came away with a PB of 14.34s in Hurdles, and an overall PB for the Pentathlon of 1672 points.
Ashton was up against some solid competition again with athletes from all over the country. He put in a great series of events, including a season’s best in Long Jump, a PB in Hurdles (16.82m), a PB in Shot Put (7.42m) and an overall PB for the Pentathlon with 1129 points. This led Ashton to second place and the silver medal in the NECAA Championship, improving on his bronze from last season.
With Valhalla Academy coach Paul Wilson attending the event (supporting one of his athletes from York), both Ashton and Tori showed that the work they have done with Paul (for Throws), Dave Hynes (for Hurdles) and Angela Richings (for Jumps)this year, has beeninvaluable alongside the
regular endurance training with Adam and Bernie. Well done to both athletes on an excellent season.
