Following a meeting of the NYSD committee on Thursday 24th September, a decision was taken to cancel the NYSD Cross Country season for 2020-21.
We’re sure that this decision was not taken lightly, but given the recently updated EA Guidelines on Cross Country Competition, there is no great surprise that the NYSD team have taken this action. It is commendable that they have been swift and decisive in their decision making.
So, no Cross Country then?
As we have proved this Summer, Darlington Harriers & Athletics Club are trailblazers – we were the first club in the region to apply for and gain a UKA Track & Field license under Covid restrictions. With one successful fixture completed, one happening this weekend (26th September) and another planned for 10th October, we have gained valuable experience in hosting events during these challenging times.
The team behind the successful “Back To Track” events are currently working behind the scenes to plan and deliver some sort of Cross Country events for our members and the wider athletics community – they will be different to what we’re used to, but rest assured, they will be safe, they will be exciting and they may even be muddy!
