The C25K/10K group are taking a well earned rest having run all the way from Darlington to Casablanca in Northern Africa – virtually of course!
At the beginning of July, their coaches issued them a challenge of running 1,000 miles in July as a group. The rules were simple: there was no minimum distance and 10p for every mile would be donated, to be shared between our chosen charity The County Durham and Darlington NHS Trust and club funds.
After the first 5 days the total was already 266 miles so coaches Mike and Jen knew the challenge was off to a great start. As the month went on, the mile total kept increasing and the group hit their 1,000 mile target by the 19th of July!
Mike and Jen, as always, were impressed with the group. “These athletes never cease to amaze us. They have really got behind this challenge. A lot of our group work for the NHS so it’s great that we can do something to support them in our own small way”.
Their final mileage was 1,760 meaning the total raised was over £200 (with many of the group rounding up their contribution the the nearest £10), to be split between the charity and the club, proving that every mile really does count.
Running the equivalent distance of Darlington to Africa is a huge achievement and you should all be extremely proud of yourselves – we certainly are. Well done to all of you.
