Now it’s very rare that we get to see the White and Blue stripes of Darlington Harriers on national television so this weekend made a welcome change as Lewis Moses was in 5000m fighting for the chance to qualify for the European Championships.
With only two places up for grabs it was going to be a tough ask in a field of 27 runners. Despite the blustery and warm conditions, Lewis ran a controlled race, slotting into the leading group of five or six athletes until around a kilometre to go where an extra burst of pace from the front broke the field, Lewis unable to respond mainly through an injury picked up in training this week still finished in an excellent 14:12:02.
Local runner Marc Scott claimed the win in 13:47.0 which is actually only .81 quicker than the time recorded by Lewis in Belgium on May 26th.
Well done Lewis, wasn’t to be your day but you will be back quicker and stronger in no time!
